Weekend Wrap Up: The Box Office Stood Still… Almost

December 17, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

weekendboxofficeWell, the holiday shopping season is now in full swing… and it did reflect somewhat at the Box Office.  Keanu Reeves’ The Day the Earth Stood Still did manage to grab the top spot, but following right behind it was Four Christmases, which remained strong.  Hard to believe that movie has made $87.8 Million Dollars!!!  Here’s how the rest of the box office looked (after the jump): Read more

Weekend Wrap Up: The Holidays Take their Toll

December 9, 2008 by Joe · 1 Comment

As I said in when I previewed the movies this past weekend, I didn’t really think that the films being released were appropriate for the time of the year.  Well, the box office really showed that, with Four Christmases taking home the top spot again.  In fact, the films that were released did so poorly, only two of them cracked the top 10!  Let’s see how the box office rounded out: Read more

Weekend Wrap Up: We’re in the Holiday Mood

December 2, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

This past weekend had the potential for quite a few of the movies to come out on top, and it seems like people are really starting to get into the holiday mood. Four Christmases wrapped up the top spot, with a bow on top, taking in 31.1 Million on the weekend to bring its total gross up to 46.1 million.  Lets see how the rest of the box office shaped up: Read more

Last Weekend Wrap Up: Going 2 Africa

November 13, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

Looks like the down economy didn’t deter people from flocking to theatres this weekend.  With the holiday on Tuesday, people took advantage of the extra time off and headed to the movies.  While I wasn’t surprised at the film that ended up on top, the #2 did surprise me, especially being rated R.  Here’s how the weekend box office numbers looked: Read more

Weekend Wrap Up: Return to High School

November 2, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

I think it can safely be said that this Halloween wasn’t one for the movies.  Despite a few good horror selections (Saw V, Changeling, The Haunting of Marley Hartley), many opted for other forms of entertainment.  I really think that theatres should be able to get a nice digital copy of Rocky Horror Picture Show, and be allowed to do something special for it every year.  I think that staff and guests would be able to have a lot of fun with it!  Instead, I just got to deal with kids sneaking into Saw V, pissing off other guests and subsequently having to kick them out.  Oh well.  Did have a few interesting costumes from the staff… wish I got some pictures.  Anyway, here’s how the weekend turned out: Read more

Weekend Wrap Up: Back to High School

October 29, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

I’m back!!!  Well, for a brief post tonight.  I’ve really missed blogging here, and I want to get back to it, but I’ve just been so busy.  Lots of working, and trying to study for the GMAT.  I can’t say that I’ve done enough of the latter, but I’m getting to it.  I experienced the business of this weekend, as you can see by the numbers I’ve listed below.  Parents brought their kids out in droves to check out High School Musical 3.  I can’t say that I see the appeal in the movie, but plenty of people obviously did.  I expect a strong weekend for Saw III next weekend, especially on Halloween night.  We’re allowed to dress up at work this year… do you think I should? Weekend Wrap Up: More Chihuahuas at the Top

October 15, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

In a late edition of the Weekend Wrap Up this week (sports have kept me busy), Beverly Hills Chihuahua managed to find it’s way to the top again!  I think this affirms the fact that people were in fact looking for something that their kids could see with them.  Usually, with a movie like Quarantine out, I tend to find that kids movies like the Chihuahuas do better because kids will try to buy tickets for that movie while intending to sneak into their film of choice.  I get to foil them though, so I don’t mind!  Here’s how the rest of the box office turned out: Read more

Weekend Wrap Up: Chihuahuas Take it Home

October 6, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

Well, we went past another weekend… quite uneventful where I was, but nevertheless it seems like it was a solid weekend nationwide. I was pretty surprised that Beverly Hills Chihuahua managed to take the top spot… I really thought that Michael Cera would be able to draw people out to come see Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, but I’m afraid I was mistaken. Eagle Eye also managed to stay strong.  Not a good weekend, prediction-wise for me.  Here’s how the box office ended up: Read more

Weekend Wrap Up: Eagle Eye is Tops

September 28, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

Hey all… been pretty busy lately, mainly cleaning my room and having a birthday celebration (not for myself), hopefully I haven’t lost any of you!  The weekend is just about over, and it looks like Eagle Eye took the top of the box office, with 29.2 million in box office receipts!  This did go along with what I predicted (or did I, I don’t know if i made a prediction or not) in my Movies this Weekend! column.  Surprisingly, #2 was the Diane Lane/Richard Gere take, Nights in Rodanthe.  Here’s how the rest of the box office shaped up Read more

Weekend Wrap Up: The Best View is Lakeview

September 22, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

Terrace, that is.  Lakeview Terrace won the weekend box office with $15.6 M.  Films this September have been performing incredibly well.  Despite the recent downturn in the economy, it doesn’t seem to have affected the theatre industry in terms of Box Office.  September is a typically slow month, but things have been looking up so far.  In addition, I’d like to note that my prediction for Lakeview Terrace as the choice movie this weekend was correct, as reported in my weekly Movies This Weekend! column.  I wasn’t right about my second choice though, as Burn After Reading stayed hot with the #2 spot.
