Just Thought I’d let you know

March 31, 2008 by Joe · 4 Comments

That Hell’s Kitchen is coming back on! The first new episode is on Tuesday, so don’t miss it. Of course, I’m gonna have to ask that you guys can’t spoil it for me because I have to work. I will, of course, be DVR-ing it, so I’ll be sure to make some comments on it afterwards.

Do any of you guys who still read this watch Hell’s Kitchen? Maybe I’ll make a weekly post about it, because I really really enjoy this show. I have to say that it’s one of my favorites. Gordon Ramsay is the man. I enjoyed his other show too, but I’m having a brain fart and can’t remember what it was called. Kitchen Nightmares! That was it. I loved that one. Dunno what it is I liked about those shows so much, but I do.

Now if only I could cook like him, I think my girlfriend would appreciate my love of the show that much more.

Get ready for Hell!!!!!! (’s Kitchen) :-)

Horton Hears a Who’s that behind me??

March 16, 2008 by Joe · 3 Comments

The answer to that question is nobod. Horton’s been kickin some butt. Man.. it’s been a busy weekend over here! I knew it was gonna be that way when people were lining up with their kids before we opened. Who really goes to the movies at 10 am? I’ll tell you. 185 people, kids and parents. And that was just for one movie. What I do like about the early morning crowd is that they’re really appreciative that we’re open early, and are generally very pleasant to serve.

I even found out that the weather does affect people’s decision to come to the movies. It actually went like this (directly from a guest)

  1. We already wanted to go to the movies, but were going to wait for a late afternoon show of Horton Hears a Who.
  2. Decided to leave earlier… but there is bad weather (rain).
  3. Well.. don’t really want the kids at home all day, so this is good idea. Going to the movies keeps them out of the house so that it doesn’t get messed up inside.

I was surprised. I mean, we always think that the weather will make business pick up, but it must really be true. How about you? Does it affect your choice?

Actually, it’s pretty funny… I think that a majority of the people who read this… minus Fletch, don’t really go to the movies that often. What really goes into the decision to go to the movies?

Anyway, Horton has been going crazy this weekend. It’s going to be the top movie by far, which is kinda what I expected, but wasn’t completely sure. I guess I should have known because of how well all the kids movies have been doing recently. What’s nice is that kids movies always do well, but often they don’t even get close to being something that would be considered great cinema. I think part of great cinema is getting people out of their homes and to the movies. Without these types of movies, theatres probably wouldn’t exist!

The day continues on though, and things can’t stay good all day. The droves eventually overwhelemed the staff that I had working, and I was all over the place, selling tickets, concessions, and cleaning. And I still go to take the time to hear from several people that I wasn’t trying hard enough, that I needed to force people to come in. You try telling teenagers that you need help and they need to come in. Not as easy as you might think!

Got through it though, and I’m ready for it again tonight. Hopefully I won’t have as many complaints, and I will be able to relax a bit. I need to go see Horton now though….

That’s all for now, more tomorrow, including my pick for a name for Mandypoo’s site!

Your Opinion Please!

February 28, 2008 by Joe · 6 Comments

Hey folks. Just wanted to ask your opinion on something. What do you guys think of this desk below? I’ve already asked a few people and got some pretty positive feedback. I’m going for a modern look for my new blogging desk :-) A modern overall look for my room!

I dunno about you guys, but I likes it a lot! It’s not the coup de grace for my new blogging setup. The best part is still a bit further off. Hopefully it will be easier to get when I make some more money online. I’ve dropped paid posting for now, so it’ll probably be a little more difficult. Thanks to Ryan Powell for the image above!

Hope to hear from you guys. Semi-Pro screening is tomorrow, I hope it’s enjoyable. I’ll be sure to let you guys know.

Talk soon!

Appreciation

February 12, 2008 by Joe · 3 Comments

Just wanted to go over a few things that I appreciate:

  • Nice Customers at the movies.
  • My girlfriend and family.
  • The readers of this blog.
  • Being able to blog!

Something I don’t appreciate is being taken for a ride by Comcast. Blargh!!! From the moment I ordered their service, and the saleswoman celebrated her sale (she thought she hung up), it’s been nothing but trouble. We’re not getting all of the channels that we thought we’re getting, and our boxes turn out to be more than we thought!

I figured that calling them would help alleviate this, but after talking to them, I realize how important good customer service is. They kept walking me around in circles, telling me that they were sorry I was misinformed, but that there was nothing they could do about it. Ok, I’m not expecting anything extravagant, but cmon… we’re throwing a lot of money their way. Looking online, I found some pretty good deals that might make it better, so I called back and asked if we could get some of those deals. Things like free equipment, cash back, etc.

Of course, we’ve got nothing to show out of it. They basically offered us a plan where we can pay 20 dollars more per month for ALL of their channels (normally $30). I don’t know if its worth it. I’m thinking about writing into the consumerist about it, but I’d like to see what you guys have to say about it first… do any of you have any experience dealing with Comcast?

This is why I wanted Verizon FiOS in the first place. Hurry up and be available in my area!

Movies This Weekend! 2/8/08

February 6, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

Hi everyone, I’ve been really busy lately and I’m hoping to recap it throughout my network of blogs throughout the remainder of the week. I’ve been to the Beanpot, watched the Superbowl, went TV Shopping, and watched another hockey game… lol.

I wanted to let you guys know what’s coming out this week! I will update with more details tomorrow, but the major releases are:

Wild West Comedy Show - This one is a kind of comedy stage show with comedians picked by Vince Vaughn himself, star of such films as Dodgeball. They travel throughout the country, performing 30 shows in 30 days. This film chronicles their journey.

Fool’s Gold - Starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConnaghey. Trying to follow up on the success of their last collaboration, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, this pair plays a divorced couple that team up in order to find the missing treasure that they have always tried to find. Well, Matt M’s character anyway. Judging from the commercials, this one seems to be pretty funny, and I admit I liked their last collaboration.

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins - Woohoo, a Martin Lawrence movie! Ok, maybe I’m not that enthusiastic about it, but it could be good! This one definitely seems like it could have its moments, but then again, most movies appear to have moments when all you’ve seen is the trailer.

Woohoo! Not really. I don’t really think these will do too well. Especially seeing as the Hannah Montana concert movie was number 1 last week.

I’ll make predictions and give a little synopsis tomorrow.. right now I need to sleep. Too many late nights and tough losses. This blogger needs some rest.

Update: I no longer need rest, but am in need of a haircut. I also waited 3 hours for cable to be set up today. I have internet! In the new home anyway, look for me to become a much better blogger with updates! And a proper desk!

RIP Heath Ledger

January 23, 2008 by Joe · 5 Comments

Being a movie blog, I feel that I should post on this. For those of you who don’t know, Actor Heath Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment today. The 28 year old actor is known especially for his role in the smash hit Brokeback Mountain. He is set to star as the Joker in the New Batman movie to be released later this year.

The details behind his death have not been released yet. It is not known whether drugs or other influences were involved.

It is quite a tragedy for such a young and successful actor to have his life ended. I don’t know if there was foul play or anything else involved, but it is extremely sad. It does show that no matter how successful or popular you are, there are things you can’t prevent. It’s unfortunate that this had to be one of them.

RIP Heath Ledger.

Movies this Weekend! 1/11/08

January 8, 2008 by Joe · 6 Comments

Hi everyone, I meant to post something yesterday but I fell asleep. I’ll save that post for… tomorrow? I’ve got to feature another blog… and I’m going to pick one from that comments post I left a while back. Don’t you wish you commented? No? :-( Fine! Lol.. just kidding. Again, I appreciate all of you, and I’m going to do my best to try to revive this blog. But I can’t do it alone! I need all of you to continue reading and letting me know what is good and what is not…I don’t write just for myself, but for you as well.

My internet is not cooperating too well right now, so let’s get to the movies. I’ll update with poster pictures later!

The Bucket List - A comedy/drama starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. These two men play two guys who are getting close to death… so they create a Bucket List… A list of things to do before you kick the bucket. Against the orders of their doctor, they check out of the hospital and start to discover themselves, travelling all around the world, and doing many crazy things. They soon learn that it’s never really too late to start living your life, and sometimes you just need to set a deadline in order to get things done.

In the Name of the King - A Dungeon Seige tale featuring Jason Statham. Directed by our favorite video game to movie director Uwe Boll, this movie tells the story of peasant who is drafted into war after an evil sorceror threatens their kingdom. As the King and his loyal magus begin to get overrun, Statham’s character and two loyal friends trek on a dangerous resuce mission to save their kingdom.

First Sunday - Starring Tracy Morgan, Katt Williams, and Ice Cube. Two guys are small time criminals find themselves with a few days to pay $17,000 of debt or Durell (Cube) will lose his son. To come up with the money, the two come up with a scheme to rob the local church, only to find that someone has done it before them, and they are forcd to go and try to solve the mystery. Faced with more than they can deal with, hilarity ensues as the duo try to weasel themselves out of their own situations.

Nothing too spectacular this weekend, I think that I might see In the Name of the King, though it is a very long movie and I probably won’t have time. First Sunday might be a good screening movie, and I know that I’ve had the stupid trailer stuck in my head for weeks now as we constantly play it at the theatre!

Do you guys plan on seeing any of these movies?

One Missed Call = One Sucky Crowd

January 6, 2008 by Joe · 5 Comments

Well, after getting only two hours of sleep on Thursday night, I was actually looking forward to the small number of openings we had this weekend, including only one sucky movie.. or one I thought was going to do poorly, One Missed Call. However, when a horde for 12-13 year olds began showing up for this movie (it’s PG-13), I knew that I might be in for a long night.

Starting at about a half hour before the show started (7:40 it started), I began making walk-thrus of the auditorium to try to get some order in there. It sounded like a middle school cafeteria in there. People were yelling on their cell phones, running around, and pretty much screaming and talking the entire time I was in there. However, since the movie did not start yet, I couldn’t really do too much except ask individual groups to keep it down a bit.

Even before the movie started, I had people coming back out and asking for refunds, saying that they didn’t feel like babysitting all night, and they couldn’t believe how loud those kids were. I completely understood their point, and I admit I felt the same way about babysitting those kids all night. I was just hoping that there wouldn’t be any issues.

Of course not. Just as the movie was starting, a group of kids walked in through the exit door of the theatre. Projection informed us, and we quickly went in to check their tickets. Some of them did, some didn’t, but the commotion had already started. People were mad that they were sneaking in, and made it known vocally. After about 5 minutes of people yelling at each other, we finally managed to get some order in there, and I hoped that things would settle down in there.

Trying to do some work upstairs, I get called downstairs, saying that I need to meet them in that particular auditorium. When I got inside, I saw that some food and drink had been thrown in there, and there was some very upset young ladies that a drink had landed on them. To add to this, there was a guy who was outside threatening to hit the kids and strangle them. Apparently, some kids weren’t mature enough to see a movie in public. Yes, it is a horror movie and some noise is expected, but it is not expected that you throw food or yell unnecessarily in the theatre.

Monitoring what happened in there afterwards, the same guy who threatened to hit the kids started screaming at them in the theatre. I should have removed him for that, but there were only 10 minutes left in the movie and I was hoping to escape without having to pass the entire theatre. It turned out that I did have to give out a large amount of passes, but not as many as I thought I would have to. What was worse is the attitude of the kids who stayed to linger around the lobby, making fun of employees and generally ignoring me when I asked them to leave.

So where does this all go? Parents, I urge you to make sure that your kids know how to behave in public before you let them loose. I’m not there to baby sit all night, and I didn’t like that I had to for this movie. How would you like it if they treated you like they treated the people who work at the movies?

Images to come later… internet not working too well.

Box Office Report: November

December 4, 2007 by Joe · 2 Comments

November was a packed month for me, and I wish I had more time to do everything, but here is a little recap on how this month was for me!

I increased a bit over this past month!! My technorati ranking increased back to its previous level of 30, which I had before I picked up this domain name. Of course I am always looking for link exchanges, as long as the blogs are quality! Please let me know if you would like a link exchange. I usually try to comment on blogs that I have linked to, but I have been so busy lately that I haven’t been able to. I’m going to try to do that again, and my feed reader should help! It’s a great way to keep up with people’s blogs!

I’d also like to thank you guys for letting me finally make it over 5000 hits on the sitemeter. It’s been a great ride, and I hope that you guys have had fun with me. There’s a lot more to come, and I know that there are some things that I wanted to write about and didn’t get to yet. I have all these things in the back of my mind, so don’t worry, I didn’t forget about them!

Now for a famous blog for the month. These are always so tough to pick. I think I have a pretty good idea of one that I’d like to feature for this month though. I think he deserves it a lot. You might remember a past featured blog known as Blog Cabins. Well he’s been doing really well, even being linked to the movie bible IMDB! He’s started a great project known as the LAMB, which I am proud to be a part of. Fletch, congratulations on being featured again!

Now I’d like to get those ideas to Fletch that I said I would but never got around to!
  • Set up a feed through feedburner so that we can all get updates when a new blog gets added to the Lamb!
  • Perhaps an email newsletter???

Good stuff. Also, my alexa ranking is now 1,293,486, which you can see at the bottom of the page. I’d like for that to increase, however, is there anything you’d like to hear about?? I’d love for you guys to see stuff that you like here, so just let me know and do my best to provide a post for you! That’s all for now, gotta update on the other blogs in my network!

Stay tuned.. big news coming…
